Dark Descendant features Nikki Glass who is a private
investigator. The story starts with
Nikki on a blind date when her phone rings, the caller is Emmitt a client of
Nikki’s who asks for her help that evening in rescuing his girlfriend from a
cult that she is living with. Nikki’s
gut reaction is to say no but she also isn’t enjoying her blind date either so
decides to meet with Emmitt outside the mansion where the cult lives. Nikki’s instinct turns out to be correct and
a car accident occurs with Nikki seriously injured, she is taken into the
mansion by some of the cult members where her life is about to change
dramatically.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book it doesn’t have vampires or were’s
or fae but it is about gods. In
particular the book is about Liberi
Deorum or Children of the Gods, these are people who are descendants of
gods such as Zeus, Eros, Loki and Kali. I
really liked Nikki she wasn’t a stupid character who made ridiculous decisions she
took everything in her stride, she didn’t accept the changes in her life
straight away she struggled coming to terms with things and didn’t jump into
bed with anyone. This is what I like
from a book it really puts me off when somebody’s life is turned upside down
and the character just shrugs it off and accepts it. We are introduced to quite a number of
characters although this book only revolves around a few of them. The ones we did meet were also very interesting;
however I am looking forward to hopefully meeting the other characters in the
next book.
This is a fast paced book that I couldn’t put down. It is quite a dark read there is torture,
rape, murder and no romance. I would like to give it 4 fangs. The next
book in the series is Deadly Descendant and is out in May 2012 and is already
on my tbr list.
