The Sweet Scent Of Blood is the first in the
spellcrackers.com series by Suzanne McLeod.
It is a dark urban fantasy series set on London and features fae,
vampires, witches, trolls and goblins.
There are three books in this series so far and I am re-reading it ready for
book four which is coming out in June.
Here is the blurb.
My name is Genny
Taylor. I work for Spellcrackers.com. It’s a great job, pays the rent, lets me
do the thing I’m good at – finding magic and cracking it – and the bonus is
it’s run by witches, which stops the vamps from taking a bite out of me.
Not that vampires are the big bad any more, not since they launched a slick PR campaign – oh, and they brought the goblins on board. Now the vamps are sought-after celebrities, and Getting Fanged and taking the Gift are the new height of all things cool.
But only if you’re human.
And I’m not.
I’m Sidhe fae.
And I know firsthand just how deadly a vampire can be.’
When Mr October, a sexy calendar pin-up vamp, is accused of murdering his girlfriend, an old debt is called in and Genny is forced to help prove his innocence, risking her job and the protection it offers – and threatening to expose her own dark secrets. Searching for the killer plunges Genny deep into the hidden heart of vampire society. It’s not long before she realises that she and Mr October are both unwitting pawns in a centuries-old power struggle between London’s non-human communities . . . and it’s not just her own neck that’s at stake, but the lives of all London’s supernaturals.

Because I am re-reading this book you can probably guess that I like it, and I do, I absolutely love
it. Ms McLeod has created a fantastic
world filled with all sorts of supernatural beings plus it is set in London
which is awesome as I live in the UK and the sort of books I read are very very
rarely set in my home country.
Gen is a great character and I warmed to her immediately
she has led a troubled life as a Sidhe Fae whose blood is coveted by
vampires. There is a big storyline
running in the background which tells us of her childhood, some of it is revealed
in this book and the two books which follow.
I forgot how much vamp action there is in The Sweet Scent Of Blood as
well. The vampires are as vampires
should be, gorgeous and sexy one minute, deadly and manipulative the next. They even go so far as infecting their
victims with 3V, an infection that makes the being infected with it beg to be bitten.
There are some excellent secondary characters also. In particular
there is the Satyr called Finn who works with Gen and the master vamp Malik al-Khan. The plot is well written and keeps you turning the pages to find out who has done
what. I really love this series and if
you like dark urban fantasy with a kick ass heroine and sexy hot vamps I recommend
you try this book. I am going to give
The Sweet Scent Of Blood 5 fangs.

I agree with you, I really love this series, so many great ideas! I can't wait to read the last one.
