The Gamble is the first book in the Colorado Mountain
series by Kristen Ashley. Here is the
blurb.
Nina Sheridan’s on
a timeout adventure in the Colorado Mountains. She needs distance from her clueless
fiancé, distance to decide whether she wants to spend the rest of her life with
a man who doesn’t care enough to learn how she takes her coffee.
Arriving in a blinding snowstorm at the A-Frame she rented, she comes face to face with the most amazing man she’s ever seen. Minutes later, when he kicks her out of his house, she goes head to head with him.
Beyond angry because she’s flown half a world away to start her timeout adventure, not to mention her sinuses hurt, she heads back down the mountain and ends up in a ditch. Unable to extricate herself, she gives up, hopes for rescue and falls asleep in the backseat.
The next morning she wakes up in the amazing man’s bed and she’s sick as a dog.
Holden Maxwell spends days nursing her back to health and then he spends the next two weeks trying to convince her to take her Colorado adventure further, in other words, make it permanent and take a gamble on him.
Nina has a tough time fighting her attraction to Max, especially when it seems all Max’s friends, her mother and stepdad and the whole town want them together and both she and Max get embroiled in the murder of Max’s ex-friend and the town of Gnaw Bone’s most detested resident – a man everyone has motive to kill, especially Max.

I had already read book 2 which is called Sweet Dreams in this series (which incidentally was my first KA book) before reading book 1. I adored Sweet Dreams so I did not think that The Gamble could beat it but I was wrong. In fact one of my friends at Goodreads had
said how much she loved Max the hero of The Gamble and she thought he was better than Tate the hero from Sweet Dreams. To be honest I didn't think this could be possible as I love Tate but once again I will say I was wrong. I am completely in love with Max.
I can’t believe how much I love reading Ms Ashley’s books. They are not the type of books that I thought
I would ever read but I love them. Yes they do follow a formula where essentially the same
things happen in every book but I really don’t care I love them and I am completely
hooked on them and Ms Ashley's writing style. The Gamble was brilliant, all of the characters were stupendous especially Nina and Max. Nina did want to make me give her a shake at times and tell her to stop being stupid with her feelings for Max but that is the only negative comment I have. This is now my favourite KA book and Maz is now my favourite KA hero, but then again I seem to say that after every book I finish. I am going to give The Gamble 5 stars, it is a brilliant read. My only problem now is which KA book to read next.
