Look Back at 2012

I always like to have a little look back at the year and I wanted to share with you my favourite books of 2012.  The series that stood out for me the most was the Charley Davidson books by Darynda Jones.  This was a new series to me this year and it tells the story of the Grim Reaper who is in the form of a young woman named Charley and her gorgeous hot male acquaintance Reyes Farrow.  This is a very funny series but it can also be quite dark especially the third book.  I highly recommend this for you Urban Fantasy fans out there.  There are four book so far with First Grave on the Right, Second Grave on the Left, Third Grave Dead Ahead and Fourth Grave Beneath My Feet.

I seemed to read one author more than any other this year and that was Ann Aguirre.  Ms Aguirre also writes using two other pen names of Ava Gray and Ellen Connor with her writing partner Carrie Lofty.  Ms Aguirre writes post-apocalyptic and Science Fiction but all of her books a romantic tone to them.  Again this is another author I highly recommend.

It was also the end of one of my favourite series over the years and 2012 saw me saying goodbye to Allie Beckstrom by Devon Monk.  Again this is an Urban Fantasy series that must be read by fans of this genre.  I'm pleased that Ms Monk is continuing the series with a spin off about two of the characters Terric and the magnificent Shame.

This year I also started reading genres that I hadn't read before thanks to Fifty Shades of Grey.  After finishing the Charley Davidson series I asked my friend Sunny if she could recommend any books with hot alpha men in them and so that's how I came to discover Kristen Ashley.  Ms Ashley writes Romance books and I had never read anything like them before.  To be honest I thought it was what old women read but how wrong could I be.  OMG I love Kristen Ashley books.  They all follow the same MO with a woman meeting an alpha male they have some troubles along the way probably a kidnapping and live happily ever after.  Doesn't sound too exciting?  Well it is let me tell you.  Ms Ashelys books are uplifting, fun and sexy.  Rock On Kristen Ashley!

Another genre I started reading was Erotica.  In particular two books stood out for me one was Captive In The Dark by C. J. Roberts and This Man by Jodi Ellen Malpas.  I had never read anything like Captive In The Dark before, it is about sex trafficking so of course it was very wrong but very addictive and had me infatuated with the evil Caleb.  This Man was incredible, again it was darker than other books like it and I fell head over heels in love with Jesse the crazy mental guy that dominates the book.

Looking forward to 2013 I'm very excited for the release of Beneath This Man by Jodi Ellen Malpas, House Rules by Chloe Neill, Rock Chick #8 by Kristen Ashley, Shattered Circle by Linda Robertson, Ever After by Kim Harrison, Magic Rises by Ilona Andrews, Horde by Ann Aguirre and Fifth Grave Past The Light by Darynda Jones to name but a few.

So that was my book highlights of 2012.  What was yours?  I hope I have introduced you to new books and authors over the past year and I look forward to doing it again in 2013.  Happy New Year everyone!

  1. A great list of books! I'm glad you enjoyed them as well. Well I confess I have a problem with erotica, but I'm glad you discovered the genre.
